Sofia Harris
Sofia is a creative and empathetic clinician with over 20 years of experience in Australia and the UK, working in private practice and community organisations. She specialises in assisting families and children with complex needs, including trauma, abuse, PTSD, grief and loss, depression, anxiety and disabilities, using a neuro-affirming and trauma-informed approach.
Sofia’s journey into play therapy has honed her therapeutic skills, becoming adept at using play as a medium to help children express themselves, process trauma, and develop coping strategies. Her approach is characterised by a gentle, patient demeanour and a profound respect for each child’s unique perspective. Formal studies in Synergetic Play Therapy, Humanistic Play Therapy, Infant Massage, Circle of Security and Interplay is supported by work as a Play Therapist with Play Therapy Melbourne and as a Therapeutic Specialist for the Australian Childhood Foundation.
Sofia’s work is grounded in a person-centered approach informed by attachment and relational theories, neuroscience, and interpersonal neurobiology. She believes in integrating children’s experiences through play, fostering resilience, and involving parents and caregivers in the healing process. Sofia uses the dyadic modality of Interplay to help support the way she works to strengthen families, assisting them towards greater healing and integration. “A person is a person because of other people.” Bonnie Badenoch (2020).
Sofia’s style is supported by deep self-reflective inner work, to support her own nervous system which has led her to the practice of Rebirthing Breathwork to expand self awareness self compassion and capacity, and she has embarked on her Rebirthing Breathwork Mastery training with The School of Breathwork.
At The Family Systems Hub, Sofia aims to continue to strengthen, support and enhance the lives of children and families by providing therapeutic child-centred play therapy, using trauma-informed responses that are paramount to healing.
In her free time, she enjoys yoga, pilates, and cooking, as well as being actively involved in her children’s activities, bike-riding, watching them play soccer, camping and exploring the incredible aboriginal country on which she lives and plays. Sofia is dedicated to lifelong learning and relishes the opportunity of contributing to generational transformation.
