Ash Paul

With over ten years of experience as a counsellor, Ash specialises in supporting adults, adolescents, and parents of children from infancy to 17 years old. Drawing on a wealth of expertise in trauma and mental health, Ash works collaboratively with individuals and families to foster healing, growth, and sustainable change.
Ash’s approach is shaped by his extensive experience in the community sector, where he has worked since 2014 across a variety of fields and areas of expertise including child protection, sexual trauma, crisis support, foster care and home based care. This background has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of complex trauma and its impact on mental health, particularly for parents navigating the complexities of raising children while managing their own emotional and psychological challenges.
A key area of Ash’s practice is Parent Mental Health Support, where he offers Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to help clients process and integrate past trauma. EMDR is an evidence-based therapeutic approach rooted in the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) Model, which helps individuals work through unresolved traumatic memories that are “stuck” in the brain and continue to influence their behaviour. This therapy not only addresses past experiences but also helps manage current triggers and prepares individuals for future challenges. To learn more about EMDR, head here. Or you may wish to watch a video from Ash speaking about EMDR here.
Ash works with clients facing a range of issues, including sexual trauma, family violence, anxiety, depression, phobias, fears, and PTSD. His approach is holistic, combining techniques from child-centred play therapy, inner child journey work, existential therapy, and psychodynamic therapies to support families in achieving their goals.
Ash also offers therapy through Telehealth, making his services accessible to clients regardless of their location.
Ash is guided by the principles of authenticity, empowerment, and hope, working with each individual or family to understand and integrate their experiences. His guiding belief is simple but powerful: “Everything is information; it is the meaning we place on it that matters most.” This perspective enables clients to reframe their experiences, empowering them to find purpose and create lasting change.
Whether you’re a parent seeking support or an individual addressing past trauma or acute stress symptoms, Ash offers a compassionate, evidence-based approach tailored to your needs.
