Family Constellations

What is Family Constellations?

Family Constellations is a transformative therapeutic approach rooted in Bert Hellinger’s Orders of Love. It uncovers the hidden dynamics within family systems that contribute to challenges like relationship struggles, low self-esteem, and repeating negative patterns.

At its core, this method recognises that many of our struggles stem from unresolved trauma—whether from our own childhood or passed down through generations. While these imprints can create pain, they also offer opportunities for profound growth. By addressing and reframing these wounds, we can achieve integration and live more authentically.

Family constellations is a powerful method that can take place within a group session or a one to one individual session that requires you to attend once. In this single session, you are assisted to investigate an issue that leaves you feeling stuck and unresolved in your life and is affecting your work, sense of self or relationships with loved ones. Family constellations offer practical solutions towards revealing the source of the negative patterns and dynamics being experienced that are inextricably linked to our family of origin, family culture and past generations within the family system.

How Does a Family Constellations Group Session Work?

Family Constellations sessions offer a unique opportunity to explore unresolved family dynamics affecting areas such as relationships, career, and personal fulfillment. Here’s what to expect:

  1. Opening Meditation: Sessions begin with a grounding exercise to prepare participants for the process.
  2. Identifying a Theme: The facilitator invites someone to share a challenge they wish to address.
  3. Role Selection: Participants engage in one of three roles:
    • Client: The person presenting their issue for exploration. The clearer the Client is about their issue, the deeper the constellation practice can be.
    • Representative: The Individuals who put themselves to service for the Consultant by embodying roles like family members or emotions. For example, if the issue presented is rejection, the individuals may represent the mother, the father, possibly grandparents and rejection.
    • Observer: Supporting the process by witnessing and holding space. The observers help to contain what is happening during the course of the constellation.

Once the representatives are chosen, they are placed in the space, and from there, the constellation comes to life in such a way that the representatives begin to feel the emotions, desires, and fears of those they represent.

It is important to note that sessions can evoke strong emotions. For those new to therapy or spiritual healing, the experience may feel intense. Facilitators provide follow-up resources to ensure ongoing support.

What Can Be Constellated?

Family Constellations can address a wide range of issues, including:

  • Persistent patterns (e.g., recurring relationship issues).
  • Family conflict or estrangement.
  • Emotional struggles like anxiety or grief.
  • Challenges linked to career or finances.

What Cannot Be Constellated?
Family Constellations focus solely on the participant’s experience. While your personal growth may indirectly affect others, including your family system, the work cannot change another person.

After a Family Constellation

It is normal to experience a range of emotions after a family constellation session. These emotions may include relief, sadness, joy, anger, or a sense of release. Participants may also feel emotionally drained or physically tired.

Self-care is essential during this time, and our facilitator is available for follow-up consultations to support your journey.

“I truly enjoyed being a participant and an observer of this workshop. The way Devi held space and guided each person through our journey was incredible. The discoveries we made individually and as a group was insightful and at times mind boggling. I truly love the experience and would look further into this style of facilitation.” (KS, Melbourne)
